Alnwick Castle, which is close to Edinburgh, is the main movie set for the Hogwarts①. It is the second largest inhabited castle in England and has been home to many renown since 1309. The history of Alnwick reaches back to the Norman Conquest in the 11th century. During its long history the castle has been witness to many sieges1 and historic events. It is no wonder that with its medieval2 exterior3, Alnwick Castle is the ideal setting for many movies and TV productions②. “Robin Hood Prince of Thieves” “Robin of Sherwood” and “Blackadder I” were all made here. But the castle is only open to the public between April 1 and October 26 each year.
Scene: One day, Harry goes to a zoo with his anti-magic aunt and uncle. Ten-year-old Harry first realizes his wizard5 powers when talking with a boa constrictor. The scene was filmed at the famous London Zoo.
Background: London Zoo is located beside Regent Garden in the centre of London. It is rather historical, with more than 600 rare animals. Besides the Reptile House, there is an Aquarium, a Wild Animal area, and some very different animals, including penguins and camels, which attract many tourists.

Scene: Harry catches the train to Hogwarts at King's Cross Station. Inside the glass-roofed train station, Harry heads to Platform 9 3/4, actually filmed at Platform 4. A red steam train—the Hogwarts Express—speeds him to Hogwarts.
Background: This station opened in 1852. It is said that Queen Boudicaa is buried beneath Platform8. Over 40 million people pass through the station each year. The sign of “Platform 9 3/4” is made of wood and seems moderately6 weathered but not especially old; the screws holding it to the wall appear to be relatively new. It isn't completely clear which one came first, this sign or the story?
Many of the Hogwart's scenes where filmed in Christ Church, Oxford University, including the 16th century staircase where Professor McGonagall greets the students; the library scenes, when Harry sneaks out wearing his invisible7 cloak; and Hogwart's hospital, where Madam Pomfrey heals students with a little touch of magic. But the most popular location was the Great Hall converted during the filming into a dinning room.
The Gloucester Cathedral is the Hogwart's aisle in the movie. This cathedral lies in the small city of Gloucester near Wales. It was very serious. In the film, Harry often wandered in this long cloister8 with his classmates Ron and Hermione.
